Ginger Mojito with The Lemon Bowl®

We are excited to partner up with Liz at The Lemon Bowl®. She has a passion for great food and drinks, authentic flavors, and healthy recipes. Take a look at this cocktail she created using NôMI Lime.

This bright and refreshing mojito recipe is made with a sweet and slightly spicy ginger simple syrup, fresh muddled mint, and NôMI lime sparkling water.

When it comes to crafting the perfect cocktail or mocktail, I love using high quality sparkling water. Not only does sparkling water add effervescence and fizz but it has zero calories and tons of flavor.

Recently I was introduced to NôMI Sparkling water based right here in West Michigan. NôMI (no-me) is short for Northern Michigan which is where they source their cherries. Currently available online in six flavors (Michigan Cherry, Michigan Cherry + Lemon, Michigan Cherry + Lime, Lemon, Lime & Grapefruit), I decided to use the Lime flavor to create a Ginger Mojito recipe.

Like any good ginger cocktail, it all starts by making a quick and easy ginger-infused simple syrup. To start, peel a 4-inch piece of ginger then slice into large pieces.

Making simple syrup is as simple as heating up sugar and water then whisking until the sugar dissolves. For this cocktail I infused the simple syrup with ginger but you could also infuse it with jalapeno for a spicy kick.

One of the reasons I love using NôMI sparkling waters for cocktails is because it is made with real fruit extract and carbonated water, nothing else. With their citrus flavors, NôMI extracts the flavor from the essential oils in the peels.  Just like when you zest a lime or lemon in your kitchen.  This allows me to control the sweetness of my cocktails for both myself and my guests.

NôMI purposely has slightly less carbonation than other sparkling water brands. Too much carbonation can overwhelm delicate flavors & can create a sour taste in the mouth.

Like any good mojito, the next step is to muddle mint and lime in a tall glass. If you have extra ginger on hand, feel free to muddle that in as well. The more you muddle, the more flavor will be extracted from the lime and mint.

Light rum is the best liquor for this mojito recipe but you can leave as is to make it a mocktail. Simply add as much or as little ginger simple syrup to taste.

When serving a crowd, I like to whip up a batch in a large pitcher about 15 minutes before guests arrive. To make sure everyone’s cocktail is nice and fizzy, wait until they arrive to add in the NôMI sparkling water.

What is the best type of rum for a mojito?

I recommend any light rum but a Puerto Rican rum is preferred.

Can I swap out Lime NôMI with another flavor of sparkling water?

Absolutely – another great option would be Michigan Cherry.

How far in advance can I prep a mojito before my guests arrive?

You can make the ginger simple syrup up to 3 days ahead and you can slice and muddle the mint + lime up to 8 hours in advance. I recommend adding the rum and sparkling water right before serving.

Your straw is waiting.

Ginger Mojito

This bright and refreshing mojito recipe is made with a sweet and slightly spicy ginger simple syrup, fresh muddled mint, and NôMI lime sparkling water.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 5 mins
Servings: 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lime halved then quartered
  • 1/2 cup mint sprigs
  • 4 ounces light rum
  • 2 bottles NôMI sparkling water lime flavored

Ginger Simple Syrup

  • 4 inches ginger peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

For assembly:

  • To prepare the ginger simple syrup, place all ingredients in a small saucepot and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir until sugar is fully dissolved. Let cool completely with ginger steeping. Before using, strain the ginger. Chill simple syrup until you're ready to use.
  • When you're ready to make the mojitos, divide the lime wedges and mint between four tall glasses and carefully muddle with the back of a wooden spoon or muddler. If you've already strained the ginger from the simple syrup, go ahead and muddle that too!
  • Pour the 1 ounce of rum in each glass, along with 2 tablespoons of the ginger simple syrup.
  • Fill each glass with ice then top off with NôMI sparkling lime. Enjoy!
